  • ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ Day

    Fri 20 Oct 2023

‘Show Racism the Red Card’ Day

Today the children and adults of Aintree Davenhill chose to wear red to ‘Show Racism the Red Card’.

Show Racism the Red Card is the UK's leading anti-racism educational charity. Established in January 1996, the organisation utilises the high-profile status of football and football players to publicise its    message. Across Britain, Show Racism the Red Card delivers training to more than 50,000 individuals per year.

During some of our assemblies (as part of Black History month) we have focused on racism and explored what it looks like using a selection of carefully chosen texts and through discussion. This week and last week, we shared Racism and Intolerance by Louise Spilsbury (which can be found using the following link https://youtu.be/ZlKVbll_pY0. It contains carefully researched text and striking illustrations that helped the children to understand the many difficulties that children may face in the world today. Together, we considered questions such as, "What does it mean to be a racist or intolerant?" and "How can we help?" The children listened intently and were very mature and considered in their responses.  We also looked at some key historical figures that faced prejudice in the past and how they overcame it with                  determination and bravery. Key Stage One children learned about Mary Seacole and Key Stage Two     children about Nelson Mandela.

Our assemblies this week have focused on many of our school values including equality, determination, courage, inspiration and respect.

  • Inter-House Duathlon

    Fri 13 Oct 2023

    Inter-House Duathlon

Next week, as part of our curriculum and to develop competition within our house teams, your child will be taking part in a small duathlon. Firstly, the children will ride or scoot around the track and then they will then run/walk/jog around the track. Each child will be timed and their times will be recorded to calculate the quickest house team. The teachers have shared a        message on ClassDojo to inform you of your child’s event day. All of the    children are asked to bring their own roadworthy bike/scooter into school. Reception/Key Stage 1 children’s bikes will be stored in the bike sheds and the large cage, the Key stage 2 children will store their bikes/scooters in cage 1. In order to take part, the children must bring a helmet into school with them to use.  If your child doesn’t have a bike or scooter they will still take part.

We look forward to seeing how our children get on and which house team win the Duathlon.

    Thank you for your support!
