At Aintree Davenhill, we recognise mathematics as a vital life skill that helps children make sense of the world around them. Through mathematical thinking, problem-solving, and reasoning, pupils learn to approach real-life situations with confidence and logic. We aim to equip our children with the knowledge, understanding, and resilience they need not only for future learning, but also for life beyond the classroom.
Our school motto, Excellence and Enjoyment, underpins everything we do in mathematics. We want our children to enjoy their learning and develop a lifelong positive attitude to maths. At the same time, we strive for excellence, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed and thrive in this essential subject.
To support our vision, we use the Red Rose Maths scheme as the foundation of our curriculum. This carefully structured programme provides a consistent, well-sequenced approach to mathematics from Early Years through to Year 6. It ensures clear progression and coverage, while allowing flexibility to meet the needs of all learners. Red Rose Maths emphasises depth of understanding, fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving — in line with the National Curriculum — and supports teachers in delivering high-quality, engaging lessons.
Our Aims in Mathematics
We want all pupils at Aintree Davenhill to:
In every lesson, children have the opportunity to build on their mental strategies, practise efficient written methods, and work through a variety of reasoning and problem-solving activities. These are delivered through independent work, paired tasks and group collaboration, encouraging teamwork and mathematical discussion.
Mathematics at Aintree Davenhill is led by Mrs Newman and Mr Ellis, who ensure that our curriculum remains ambitious, inclusive, and reflective of our high expectations.
