At Aintree Davenhill, Physical Education (PE) plays a vital role in our whole school curriculum and in promoting healthy, active lifestyles. PE lessons provide all children with the opportunity to develop physical skills, knowledge, and understanding across a broad range of activities. Our aim is to help pupils perform with increasing competence, confidence, and enjoyment in a safe and supportive environment.
We recognise that physical activity has a powerful impact not only on physical development, but also on mental wellbeing, self-esteem, and teamwork. Through carefully planned, engaging lessons, children are encouraged to challenge themselves, build resilience, and develop key life skills such as collaboration, leadership, and communication.
To ensure a consistent and high-quality approach across the school, we use the PE Hub to support the planning and delivery of our PE curriculum. This comprehensive resource enables staff to deliver progressive, skill-based lessons that are aligned with the National Curriculum, while also incorporating assessment opportunities and clear learning objectives. It allows teachers to build on prior learning, tailor lessons to the needs of their pupils, and ensure full coverage of key physical competencies.
Pupils experience a wide variety of sporting activities throughout the year. We also benefit from our strong partnership with MADCOS, which provides regular opportunities for our children to participate in inter-school competitions and tournaments—encouraging a healthy sense of competition, sportsmanship, and school pride.
Specialist coaches are used to enhance the delivery of specific areas of the PE curriculum and to lead high-quality after-school clubs. Our extensive extracurricular programme is a valued part of school life, offering children the chance to pursue their interests and try new sports in a fun and inclusive setting. Popular clubs include football, netball, cross country, and many others led by enthusiastic and experienced staff.
At Aintree Davenhill, we are committed to providing all children with the physical foundations and positive attitudes they need to lead active, healthy lives—both now and in the future.
