GEOGRAPHY AT AINTREE DAVENHILL PRIMARY SCHOOL

At Aintree Davenhill, we believe that a high-quality geography education should inspire pupils’ curiosity and fascination about the world and its people - fostering a lifelong passion for exploring and understanding the planet we live on.

Our curriculum equips pupils with essential knowledge about diverse places, cultures, resources, and environments, alongside a deep understanding of key physical and human geographical processes. This enables children to appreciate the complexity and interconnections of the natural world and human societies.

The geography curriculum is carefully sequenced so that children revisit and build upon their geographical knowledge and skills throughout their time at school. By regularly revisiting key concepts and themes, we deliver a knowledge-rich curriculum that supports deeper understanding and long-term retention.

A strong feature of our geography teaching is the use of the local environment. Pupils frequently explore and learn about the geography of Aintree and the wider Sefton area, including its coastlines, rivers, canals, countryside, and towns. These local studies help children make meaningful connections between their learning and the world around them, fostering a sense of place and environmental awareness.

At Aintree Davenhill, geography is about nurturing informed, curious learners who are ready to engage thoughtfully with the challenges and opportunities facing our planet.
