MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES AT AINTREE DAVENHILL PRIMARY SCHOOL
At Aintree Davenhill, we believe that learning a foreign language is an important part of a broad and balanced curriculum, helping children to develop cultural awareness, communication skills, and a curiosity about the wider world.
We follow the Kapow Primary Spanish scheme, which provides a clear, progressive structure to teaching Spanish across Key Stage 2. The scheme is designed to build pupils’ confidence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish, through engaging, age-appropriate lessons that foster a love of language learning.
Our aims in teaching Spanish are to ensure that children:
- Develop a positive attitude towards learning a new language through varied and interactive activities.
- Gain increasing cultural awareness by exploring Spanish-speaking countries and learning about their traditions, people, and daily life.
- Use their growing knowledge to understand and respond to spoken and written Spanish with increasing confidence and accuracy.
- Recognise that languages have distinct grammatical structures and begin to make comparisons with English.
- Build a strong foundation for continued language learning at Key Stage 3 and beyond.
To extend their learning further, children in Key Stage 2 also have the opportunity to attend a weekly Spanish club, where they can enjoy language-based games, songs, and activities in a fun and informal environment.
At Aintree Davenhill, we are proud to offer a vibrant and engaging Spanish curriculum that prepares pupils for the global world in which they live.
