Experiences and Visitors

Throughout the year, we will provide a range of exciting experiences and welcome visitors into school to support and enrich the children's learning across our different topics.

Homework and Reading Books

Please make sure your child brings their book bag to school every day, with their reading book and reading record inside.

Please use the reading record to record when your child has read at home. Regular reading at home is extremely important in helping your child to develop their reading skills, fluency and confidence.

Maths homework will be sent home each week for your child to complete. Please ensure that the homework book is returned to school in your child's book bag on Wednesdays.

We encourage you to support your child with their homework and establish regular routines for reading, spellings and times tables. Short, regular sessions are often more productive than longer sessions where concentration can be lost.

Cursive Handwriting

This year, the children will continue using cursive handwriting. Please support your child at home by encouraging them to use the same style of handwriting.

We will also encourage children to remember to:

  • use capital letters correctly;

  • leave finger spaces between words;

  • use full stops;

  • form their letters correctly;

  • sit their letters neatly on the line.

PE

The children will have PE twice a week. Please check ClassDojo for information about your child's PE days.

On PE days, children should come to school wearing their PE kit. Please make sure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled.

For safety reasons, children should not wear jewellery on PE days.

Fruit and Snack

Fruit is available each day for the children at snack time. Children may also bring a small, healthy snack from home.

Please do not send crisps, chocolate or cakes for snack.

We have children in school with allergies, so please ensure that no nut products are brought into school.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to working with you and your children throughout their exciting Year 1 journey.
