Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education

P.S.H.E. AT AINTREE DAVENHILL PRIMARY SCHOOL

At Aintree Davenhill we are very keen to encourage all children to behave with a caring attitude.  We teach them to care for themselves, building up self-esteem, caring for others and the environment.

PSHE focuses on three core themes:

Core Theme 1 - Health and Wellbeing

Core Theme 2 - Relationships

Core Theme 3- Living in the wider world

We follow the Ealing Scheme of Work for P.S.H.E which gives us the foundations for our teaching. P.S.H.E is also taught through assemblies, circle-time, group work, discussions etc.  Pupils say that PSHE lessons really help them to understand factors that impact on their emotional health and well-being.

SEX AND RELATIONSHIP EDUCATION

Sex and Relationship Education (SRE) is taught in a moral framework presented in the context of family life in its widest sense; of loving relationships and respect for others. Support and consultation is sought from parents, governors and organisations.

The programme reflects the school ethos and demonstrates and encourages the following values:

  • Respect for self;

  • Respect for others;

  • Responsibility for their own actions;

  • Responsibility for their families, friends, school and the wider community.

We follow the 'Chris Winter Project' which provides a series of lessons in SRE alongside the Ealing scheme of work. Parents will be informed when lessons about puberty and human reproduction will be taught.  Teaching materials can be viewed by parents if required.
