Welcome to Nursery

We are the Nursery children! We are all 3 and 4 years old and we like to learn by play and interaction with adults and other children. We like to be outside running, climbing, digging, and making dens. We also like to learn in a “hands on” way inside too! We learn lots of social skills, rule and routines during our time in nursery.

Topics we cover in Nursery

Each year our topics change depending on the interests and needs of the children. The Early Years Curriculum is flexible and adaptable. We still cover topics such as Christmas, Easter, and the Seasons (Autumn, Winter, Spring, Summer). We tend to have common interests each year such as: trains, fire fighters, police, hairdressing and themes linked to well known repetitive stories such as “Dear Zoo”, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and “We’re going on a bear hunt”. Our questions to start off our general topics are as follows:

Who lives in my house?

Where does the day go at night?

Which colours make you feel happy or sad?

What would you find at the farm?

Who goes to the ugly bug ball?

What can I do with water?

We also visit the local parks and shops throughout the year.

P.E Days

Our PE day is Wednesday. No need to bring a PE kit though, just a pair of pumps to change into. We are outdoors whenever possible! Leave a pair of wellies in the cloakroom at all times with your name in, always wear suitable outdoor shoes and have a coat with you.

Parental Involvement

  • The children in nursery all have a learning journey which you will be invited to look at and contribute too throughout their time with us.
  • Children are ask to bring a book bag each day which we appreciate if you could check each night for letters etc
  • The children are able to choose a class library book each week to bring home and share with you. We welcome your comments in their reading record book.
  • We welcome parents into the setting for open evenings and drop ins (parents evening).
  • Staff are always on hand to discuss your child’s development and answer your questions.
  • We send home a half termly newsletter with all of nursery’s up to date information.
  • Parents are asked to check the parent’s noticeboard in the nursery shelter for reminders and the school website and face book page for the latest information.
  • Parents are asked to sign up to parentmail to receive the weekly school newsletter.
  • Parents are encouraged to take home special stars to fill in and return to school. These stars are to share milestones and achievements your child has reached. We then add these to their learning journey.
